Why I made it
Recipes now arrive as short videos, and the saved folder becomes a pile nobody opens again. The caption rarely has the full method, so finding the ingredients means watching the clip three times.
I wanted saving a video to end with dinner planned.
What is in it
- Share an Instagram Reel, a TikTok or a Short and the app pulls out every ingredient and step
- Paste any recipe link and get the recipe without the life story
- Photograph a cookbook page or import a PDF
- Recipes sort themselves into folders, with search by name or ingredient
- Drag recipes onto the days of the week and get a reminder before dinner
- A cooking mode with large text, voice commands and timers taken from the steps
- Widgets for the Home Screen and Lock Screen, and a Live Activity for the current step
- iCloud backup across iPhone and iPad
How it is built
Recipe AI is a native iOS app, written in Swift and SwiftUI. An AI model reads the video, the web page or the photo and returns the ingredients, the steps and the nutrition when it is available.
The share sheet is the front door: you save from Instagram, TikTok or the browser without opening the app first. Widgets and a Live Activity then carry the plan and the current step to the Home Screen, the Lock Screen and the Dynamic Island.
Recipes back up through iCloud, so they follow you from iPhone to iPad.
Where it is now
Recipe AI has been on the App Store since June 2026 and is free to download. The current version is 1.7.3.
